Yangtze River Cruise - Viking Century Star - Shibaozhai Temple
One of the stories we heard from our guide at Shibaozhai Temple was of the hole with the ever-flowing rice. As the story goes, in ancient times, each day enough rice would come out of a small hole in the floor of the temple to feed all the monks and people who were residents. One day, a monk decided that if he made the hole bigger, they could get even more rice. Alas, as shown here in this depiction with the clay figure, making the hole bigger made ALL the rice disappear. And the moral of the story is . . .don't be greedy! This clay figure has been digging his hole for years!
