Our guide, Matthew Liu, lived in Beijing with his wife and small daughter, but was born and raised near the Great Wall of China. Before moving to Beijing, Matthew sharpened his excellent English skills by guiding tourists to the Great Wall. He stayed with our Viking River Cruises' group for the entire cruise tour, including the two flights (Beijing to Chongqing and Yichang to Shanghai). It certainly was good to have a familiar face who was knowledgeable and efficient to guide us around. Here we are at the summer palace.
