Beijing - Chinese Capital City - Viking River Cruises' Beijing Tour

The Summer Palace is a "must see" in Beijing. This park-like area is about 10 miles northwest of the center of Beijing. The pagoda in the center of the photo is the Foxiangge -- Pagoda of the Incense of Buddha. It towers over Kunming Lake in the foreground. The Summer Palace dates from the Yuan dynasty, when engineers created a series of man-made lakes for the imperial family. The retreat took on its current look in the mid-18th century.
