Normandy - Northern Europe - Cruise to the Baltic
The Pegasus Bridge was the first to be taken after the invasion on June 6, 1944. British gliders captured the bridge in about 10 minutes shortly after midnight! It crosses the Caen Canal near the Orne River at Benouville, France. The Canal was important because it connects to the English Channel. This bridge is actually a copy of the original, which was replaced 4 years ago because it was too short for modern trucks. The original sits next to the museum, and is on the other side of the bridge from where I made this photo.
