Northern Europe - Copenhagen, Denmark - Scandinavia

This statue of King Frederik V supposedly cost more than the 4 identical Rococo palaces that make up the Amalienborg Plads grounds. The French sculptor, Jacques Saly, spent 30 years in Copenhagen at the king's expense to create the statue!
This palace complex is home to the royal
family. Queen Margarethe II lives in one of the palaces and her two grown sons
live across the cobbled plaza in one of the other ones. The dome of the Marble
Church is behind Amalianborg. This church was started in 1749, and was
originally planned to compete with St. Peter's in Rome. However, the cost grew
so high that the church was not finished until the early 20th century. One of
the cost savings was to do the dome in Danish marble rather than the more
expensive Norwegian marble.
