St. Petersburg, Russia - Preview
The About Cruises Guide and the About Fishing Guide Cruise Scandinavia and Northern Europe
The Renaissance R6 was in port in St. Petersburg, Russia for a second day, having spent the night in the "Venice of the North".
As I noted on yesterday's schedule, I selected three Renaissance shore excursions for our 2 days here--a full day tour of "the Glories of St. Petersburg", a half-day tour of the famous museum the Hermitage, and an evening at Yusupov's Palace. We did the Hermitage museum our first morning, followed by the Yusupov's palace that night. The second day we toured St. Petersburg and ate lunch at a hotel at midday.
The most famous attraction in St. Petersburg is the great Winter Palace, the Hermitage, which houses one of the world's greatest art collections. Renaissance has a special tour of the Hermitage, which I looked forward to for months. St. Petersburg was the pre-revolution capital of Russia, and is filled with palaces and churches with interesting architecture like the one at the left.
