Caribbean Cruise from San Juan on the Destiny
By: Heidi

We were a group of family members, 18 total, leaving San Juan PR on the Carnival Destiny for a 7 day cruise of the Caribbean. The Destiny is an extremely large boat with 3000 passengers. Needless to say, it was quite crowded.

We left San Juan at 10:30 pm on Dec. 31. The New Years celebration consisted of a band and free champagne and party hats and horns and streamers at the midnight hour. I expected a bit more. Also, unfortunately, my immediate family of six, were without our luggage. The airlines lost our luggage when we were in route to San Juan.

Jan. 1, arrived in St. Thomas US Virgin Island. First thing we did was go to the pursers office to get help in locating our luggage. I was disappointed in the inexperienced help at the pursers office. We had been to this island once before, so headed straight for the beach via taxi after buying the necessary island wear (shorts, tank tops and swimming suits). Two people from our group opted for Carnivals on shore excursion for a tram ride and hike. They were not impressed.

Jan. 2, arrived in Antigua. Still trying to locate our luggage. Carnival gave us 3 extra large t-shirts as an in-kind gesture. They did not have any shaving cream, toothbrushes or toothpaste for us. Went shopping some more for necessities. Then on to a beach.

Jan. 3, arrived in Guadalupe. Still looking for luggage. Carnival gave us a $200 credit for the six of us to buy items on board. Another day at a beautiful beach. Luggage arrived at 4:00p.m.

Jan. 4, day at sea. Did laundry-as did everyone else on the ship! Crowded.

Jan. 5, arrived in Aruba. Lovely town. Spent the day at the beach and drove around the island.

Jan. 6, day at sea. Getting tired of being on the ship.

Jan. 7, arrive back in San Juan. We disembarked with very little delay.

Overall, on a scale of 1 to 10, I would give my experience on this cruise about a 6.

The food we all found to be extremely bland. Especially the desserts. Seafood was usually over cooked. The waiters were excellent. On a scale of 1 to 10, the quality of food would get a 5. The entertainment would get a 7.
