Silversea Silver Shadow Cuisine

The Pool Grille serves lunch most days until 4:00 pm for those who want to eat in their swimwear or who were ashore during the regular lunchtime. Of course, some people (not to be named) ate a late lunch at the Pool Grille after eating an early lunch at the Terrace Cafe! Although the Silver Shadow is a luxury ship, Silversea management recognizes that people expect to have lots of food available when they cruise. Passengers also like to eat when they are hungry, which for some people is fairly constant. Therefore, snacks are served throughout the day around the ship, and room service is always available. Although we preferred to dine with others, we often got a light room service breakfast in the morning to save time when we were doing a shore excursion.

One real treat on the Silver Shadow was " Dinner Under the Stars." The staff set up tables on the pool deck and executive chef Rudi Scholdis created an elegant menu for 20 guests with reservations. As you can see in the photo above, the sunset alone made the evening special. This dinner was very popular, and passengers had to sign up early or get on a waiting list to participate. Another evening, the staff decorated the pool deck with flags and set up tables for all of the passengers, and we had a gala barbeque followed by a Turkish dance troupe and dancing under the stars. The barbeque was lots of fun, and included whole roasted suckling pig, spare ribs, fresh swordfish, sirloin steak, BBQ chicken, and all sorts of other tasty fare. I love eating out of doors, and the Aegean weather was perfect for outdoor dining.

The Silver Shadow is great for food and wine "explorers". I love trying new dishes on cruises, and having an extensive complimentary wine list to choose from allows passengers to try new wines as a part of the all-inclusive price. Each lunch and dinner has a new wine, and passengers can also request any other wine on the complimentary list. I found a couple of new wines that I am anxious to share with friends at home. We also picked up a few dishes that were creative, delicious, and simple to make. That's what I call a perfect dish! The executive chef was quite willing to share some of his recipes with us, and there were a couple of items that involved ingredients that I would have never thought to put together, but were terrific. One in particular was a beet appetizer. I've never been much for beets, but when combined with apples and cheese, the result was delicious. It was so good we even ordered it special another night later in the cruise even though it was not on the menu.

The Silver Shadow cruise ship ambience, staff, suites, and cuisine all work in combination to provide passengers with a wonderful cruise experience. Maybe it is time for you to "step up" to the next level of cruising.
