Carnival Legend's On-Board Chapel and Wedding Packages Perfect for Couples

By Linda Garrison, About.com

MIAMI (08/02/02) - The new 88,500-ton Carnival Legend's intimate wedding chapel, combined with a variety of affordable and convenient wedding packages, will provide memorable and unique opportunities for couples to "tie the knot" in a striking and romantic setting. Carnival Legend's wedding packages feature a ceremony aboard ship during embarkation day or at various on-island locations, and complement the line's existing fleetwide wedding program, which is expected to attract some 2,200 couples this year.

The Chapel on Carnival Legend features stained-glass windows and Old Testament scenes, along with a central aisle leading to the stage and a private dressing area for the bride. The Gothic-style facility will serve as the venue for weddings taking place during embarkation day while the ship is docked at Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Carnival's "Just for the Bride & Groom" package starts at $695 and includes an official civil ceremony, a champagne toast with keepsake flutes, flowers for both bride and groom, a wedding cake with cake topper, pre-recorded wedding music, a decorated bridal aisle and photographic services.

The "Welcome Aboard" package begins at $1,295 and offers all the amenities of "Just for the Bride & Groom," as well as a reception with one-hour open bar and hot-and-cold hors d'oeuvres, a traditional two-tiered wedding cake and coffee service.

Couples may also select the "Deluxe Romance" package, which starts at $1,395 and includes a one-and-a-half hour reception and an ice carving, as well as all the features of the other programs. A wide variety of options such as videography services, live music and tuxedo rental are also available at additional cost.

Shoreside ceremonies featuring a romantic tropical setting will also be available in Barbados and St. Maarten when the Carnival Legend enters Caribbean service in Nov. 2002. Carnival Legend is scheduled to debut Aug. 24 with a 12-day Northern European voyage round-trip from Harwich (near London) followed by a 15-day transatlantic crossing departing Harwich Sept. 5 and arriving New York Sept. 20. From New York, the ship will operate two- and three-day cruises-to-nowhere and 11-day Canada/New England voyages, then sail on six-day Bermuda cruises from Baltimore and Philadelphia in October. Carnival Legend will then reposition to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., to operate a two-day cruise-to-nowhere and a series of eight-day Caribbean sailings from that port beginning Nov. 10.

Following these voyages, the ship will launch a one-of-a-kind eight-day Caribbean cruise program from New York May 13, 2003.
