Most cruise visitors to Athens want to visit one place--the Acropolis, a large hill in the middle of city.

The Acropolis is covered with the ruins of several ancient temples and other buildings. It's a hike to the top and not easy for those who have walking problems. However, the up-close views of these magnificent structures is worth the effort.

After touring the Acropolis, be sure to stopover at the Acropolis Museum at the foot of the hill on the southeast side. One of the most interesting features of this museum is the way the Greek government has placed replicas of the parts of the Parthenon as placeholders for the controversial "Elgin marbles" currently residing in the British Museum in London.
