One of Canada's Smallest Post Offices

Follow me on:

While in Campbell River, British Columbia on the Regent Seven Seas Mariner, I helped deliver the mail via float plane to one of Canada's smallest post offices on Read Island.

A touching thought, but unfortunately, not true.
As a Canadian postal historian, I am aware of equally small Post Offices in Canada, many of which are no longer in existence; some are seasonal (Summer) Post Offices; others are ‘floating’ Post Offices, such as RMS Segwin. In the 19th century, many rural Canadian Post Offices were simply a corner of a farm kitchen!

Okay David — I’ll take your word for it. Not sure why the Read Island Postmistress told us hers was the smallest in Canada. I’ve changed the blog to “one of the smallest”! Thanks for the input.
