When Viking River Cruises announced the addition of six new ships to its fleet in 2012, ten new ones in 2013, and eight more in 2014, these Viking Longships became some of the most discussed river cruise ships of the past couple of years. Each of these ships is named for a Norse god, so it won't be difficult to keep up with them!
I sailed the Viking Njord in December 2012 on a "Danube Waltz" itinerary from Budapest to Passau. It was my first Christmas market cruise, and I came away really impressed with the ship. I especially liked the new Aquavit Lounge and our veranda cabin, which featured a full-sized balcony and large bathroom with heated floor. The Viking Njord and the rest of these new Longships are certainly a great addition to the Viking fleet.
