Bergen is a popular port of call for cruise ships sailing the fjords of Norway. The town is on the southwest coast of Norway, and is often viewed as the gateway to the fjords. This northern European city is filled with charming old buildings, a bustling harbor, and great views from nearby Mount Floyen.
Ships offer many shore excursions in Bergen, but those who like to walk might want to just explore on their own. Many of the historical buildings are on Bryggen Wharf, and the Torget (market) on Fish Square is not to be missed. If it's a beautiful day, be sure to ride the Floibanen Funicular to the top of Mount Floyen. As seen in this Bergen photo gallery, the views of the town and the harbor below are spectacular, and the hiking trails are well marked and interesting.
