Porto Belo is located south of Rio de Janeiro on the Atlantic Ocean. The small town is famous for its good beaches and great diving opportunities. The weather in Porto Belo is ideal year-round.
I visited Porto Belo on a South America cruise on the Celebrity Infinity that embarked in Buenos Aires, cruised up the coast of Brazil to Buzios and to Rio de Janeiro for Carnaval and the famous Samba Parade, and then returned to Buenos Aires. It was a terrific northern hemisphere winter time cruise, filled with beautiful sunny skies and warm weather.

What did you think about Buzios? I’ve been there three times, but the last time I noticed some big changes.

Buzios was much more “touristy” than Porto Belo and more developed. I’ve only been the one time, and thought the beach was lovely and the bars/shopping very good.
Porto Belo is about 450 air miles from Rio de Janeiro and about 650 land miles. I would not call this near Rio.
Terrific winter time? You mean in the North hemisphere, right? Carnaval takes place in February/March which means summer time in Brazil.
Really I agree, Porto Belo is far from Rio.
You are both right. I guess I was thinking it was “near Rio” when compared to other places in Brazil I have visited such as Manaus. I changed the blog; thanks for pointing this out.
Buzios is “the” place to go on honeymoon!
