Water is always nearby in Stockholm since it is built on 14 islands at the spot where freshwater Lake Malaren meets the Baltic Sea. Cruise ships sailing to northern Europe and the Baltic Sea often include Stockholm as either a port of call or as an embarkation or disembarkation port. The modern city has a well-preserved old city, a fascinating museum devoted to an ancient warship that sank on its first voyage (not the Titanic), and one of the most beautiful city halls in the world. And, then there's the ice bar.
