Each river cruise line has a slightly different itinerary, but all include the opportunity to visit the ancient ruins at Angkor in Cambodia and at least one overnight in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam. During my teenage years, Vietnam was on the news everyday, and locales like Saigon and the Mekong River became household names much like places in Afghanistan and Iraq have been the past few years. I can envision many other baby boomers who will be interested in seeing the changes made (and the things unchanged) over the past 40 years in this part of the world.
Although I haven't been on a Mekong River cruise, I visited Vietnam from the Crystal Symphony a few years ago and was fascinated to see sites I had heard so much about like the Cu Chi Tunnels, China Beach, and Saigon. I'm sure these Mekong River cruise tours will attract many cruise lovers who have the same fascination for Southeast Asia that I do.
