Disney Dream - Disney Cruise Line Announces Innovative Features for New Disney Dream

Sunday November 1, 2009
The Disney Dream will not be launched until January 2011, but Disney Cruise Line has already announced some exciting innovations on the new ship, and reservations open November 9.

At a gala event in New York on October 29, Disney executives and characters laid out and demonstrated several features of the Disney Dream. It was quite a party, and Donald Duck was probably the happiest character present since the Disney Dream will feature a five-foot statue of him in the atrium.

The Disney Dream has numerous technical and aesthetic innovations, but two stood out to me. The first of my favorites is the new AquaDuck, (a GREAT name) the industry's first water coaster. It should be a wet and wild ride for children of all ages! The second excellent innovation is the use of a virtual porthole in the inside cabins. Cameras on both sides of the ship will feed either the starboard or port view into the interior cabins. With a bit of Disney whimsy and magic, cartoon characters will occasionally appear in the porthole. Can't you just see Mickey snorkeling by your virtual porthole? This "window" may drive up demand for interior cabins.
