From the Black Sea to Nuremberg with Viking River Cruises - Sailing the Danube River in Eastern Europe

Cruising the Danube River from Bucharest near the Black Sea across eastern Europe to Nuremberg is a wonderful way to see this fascinating part of the world, and our voyage with Viking River Cruises was a memorable one.

This cruise journal includes links to over 300 photos of our journey, along with details of the ports of call.

One new twist -- how many people have started a cruise on one ship and ended their cruise on a second? A flooded Danube River kept ships from passing under a few of the very low bridges. Viking River Cruises came up with a creative solution -- we swapped ships, moving from the Viking Neptune to the Viking Pride, while the Viking Pride passengers moved to our ship. It was the most organized, seamless transfer imaginable. And, we didn't miss a single port of call (although we had to bus to some of them). Overall, everyone on the ship had a terrific time, thanks to the efforts of our crew and Viking management.
