From Seatrade Insider:
Orient Lines lays off 10, including Nierenberg
3/11/2008
Orient Lines confirmed it furloughed 10 full-time employees, citing the current worldwide economic crisis. The layoffs enabled the Orlando-based company to cut expenses without impacting operations, according to a statement.
Executive vp Bruce Nierenberg was among those furloughed on Friday and he subsequently resigned, a spokesman told Seatrade Insider.
The spokesman also said that Orient Lines president and ceo Wayne Heller said the venture is moving forward. Heller aims to start sailings on the 650-passenger Marco Polo II (ex Maxim Gorkiy) for the 2009 Europe season.
Reservations opened in early September.
