MSC Cruises Welcomes Newest Ship - MSC Poesia

Thursday April 24, 2008
Earlier this month the MSC Poesia was welcomed into the MSC Cruises fleet in grand style with a regal celebration in Dover.
MSC Musica in Venice, Italy
The ship was christened by Hollywood royalty and godmother Sophia Loren, who has served as godmother for the line's last four ships. The latest in the line's "Musica" class of ships was also welcomed by Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, representing the British Royal Family.

Providing the onboard entertainment prior to the midnight christening were several members of musical "royalty," including Italian opera legend Andrea Bocelli and award-winning singer/songwriter KT Tunstall.

This was the first time the Italian-owned MSC Cruises christened a new ship outside of Italy. At 94,600 tons and 1,275 staterooms (with double occupancy for 2,550 passengers), MSC plans for the MSC Poesia to blend cutting-edge technology, elegant surroundings, exciting entertainment venues and tantalizing dining opportunities (at four restaurants - including the Kaito Sushi Bar - and 12 lounges.

After the event, MSC Poesia set sail on her 13-night pre-inaugural voyage from Dover to Venice, visiting Ireland, Portugal, Spain, Croatia, and Italy, arriving in Venice where she will be positioned for the summer of 2008.

MSC Poesia is a sister ship to the MSC Orchestra and MSC Musica (launched in 2007 and 2006, respectively). She is the ninth ship in the MSC Cruises fleet.
