NCL Announces $2.8 Billion Contract for Up to Three New Cruise Ships
Monday September 11, 2006
Great news for cruise lovers! We all love new ships, and NCL announced that it has entered into a contract with Aker Yards S.A. of France to build up to three new cruise ships, totaling 12,600 berths for delivery between 2009 and 2011. The contract price, comprising two firm ships and one option, is for approximately $2.8 billion. Each of the ships will carry up to 4,900 passengers each, making each berth cost about $224,000.
Don't start packing yet. The first new ship will not be delivered until 2009, and NCL promises many new "freestyle cruising" surprises will be incorporated into the new ships.
