Tropical Storm Chris Forces Cruise Ships to Change Itineraries

Thursday August 3, 2006
Cruise ships often change their itineraries to avoid bad weather. They want to protect both the safety of their passengers and their investment in multi-million dollar cruise ships. As of Thursday night, Tropical Storm Chris has forced six cruise ships to change their itineraries.
  • Navigator of the Seas will make its port call in Nassau, Bahamas, on Thursday, one day earlier than scheduled. Weather permitting, the ship will then make a port call in CocoCay on Friday.
  • Explorer of the Seas will not make its scheduled port call in Labadee, Haiti, Thursday and instead, will make a port call in Nassau, Bahamas.
  • Freedom of the Seas will not make its scheduled port call in Labadee, Haiti, Friday. Instead, the ship will spend the day at sea.

At this time, no other Royal Caribbean itineraries are being altered due to tropical weather. Royal Caribbean will continue to closely monitor weather conditions and update this information daily at 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Carnival has diverted three of its cruise ships.

  • The Carnival Valor, which plans to return to Miami on Sunday, traded stops in St. Thomas and St. Maarten for calls at Grand Turk and Freeport.
  • The Carnival Triumph, which plans to return to Miami on Saturday, will add a stop in Grand Turk to make up for a canceled visit to St. Maarten.
  • The Carnival Elation, which also plans to return to Miami on Sunday, will now visit Grand Cayman and Freeport instead of St. Thomas and San Juan.
