Princess Cruises issued a press release today about the Crown Princess incident last week where the ship suddenly listed to the right, causing numerous injuries. The ship was cleared by the Coast Guard and sailed from New York to the Caribbean on Saturday with a ship full of passengers. The incident is still being investigated, but Princess Cruises' management confirmed in the press release that "the incident was due to human error and the appropriate personnel changes have been made".

We were with a party of about 20 people on the Sun Princess and had a similar incident but less severe about 9 years ago in the Caribbean Sea. It was scary when the ship listed and stayed down for about 15-20 seconds. Glasses were broken in some bars and the galley had a problem with the cooking pots shifting but I did not hear that anyone had been injured.
I spoke to a clerk in the purser’s office later and she commented that it was the closest that she had ever come to a disaster.
I called Princess Cruise Lines in CA when we returned. They checked with the captain and he said it was a problem with the rudder and he was in control on the bridge at the time.
Nevertheless—we have not dared to go on another cruise after that.
Barbara. I can understand why you would not go on another cruise after something like that. But it’s a shame because you are missing out on a fantastic way of vacationing. I have been on 14 cruises and thank God nothing like that has ever happened. I love cruising and I’m sorry that you had to suffer an experience that turned you off about cruising. But whatever type of vacations you take, I hope that you enjoy them very much.
I was on the Emerald Princess and something very similar happened we were docking in Mykonos when a 75mph wind hit the side of the ship we nearly rolled over bu we had to abort mykonos
I was on the Grand a few years before and we had similar wind in mykonos so I doubt the saftey of the Emerald Class
i was actually on the ship!
