Elephant Island Antarctica Pictures

Friday January 20, 2006
Antarctica is a wonderful cruise destination for adventurous travelers. The story of Antarctic explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton and his Endurance crew of 28 icebound sailors in 1914 is an amazing story of determination. I had heard and read about Elephant Island, where 22 of Shackleton's crew spent four long, dark Antarctic winter months awaiting rescue, and marveled at their perseverance. However, until I visited Elephant Island on an inflatable Zodiac boat from the Hanseatic cruise ship, I had no idea just how unbelievable their story actually was!
